God Speaks

God Speaking Through Nature

“The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice.” 2 Samuel 22:14 NIV.

One of my greatest desires is to hear God’s voice!  I want to make my prayers an actual conversation – one where I listen to Him, as much as I talk.

There was a time when I felt that the Creator of the Universe must have better things to do than chat with me – that I wasn’t “good enough” for Him to take the time! Besides, what would I say, and what if I didn’t like what He said to me?

It felt like somewhat of a risk to open myself to such an unfamiliar thing. I mean, what if He learns every questionable thing I’ve done in my life – would He judge me and punish me?

I’ve learned a lot through the years, and I’ve had many conversations with my Father – not any audible ones, but feeling His Spirit. I allowed myself to take the chance of possibly misinterpreting what I was hearing, and I started writing down my conversations.

I almost always felt God respond to my questions and my pleas for help, enough so that I became less afraid to “take spiritual dictation!” I began to trust the “impressions” in my heart, and I started to have fun!

This morning I got a sudden and strong urge to write, “God speaks!” I opened my mind and my heart and wrote down the words that I heard the Holy Spirit whisper to me. It’s not a masterpiece of writing, but I know that God wants very much to converse  with all His Children, and He wanted me to reach out with that fact, here, in my blog.

“God Speaks!”

Do you think you’re not “spiritual” enough to hear God speak to you? Perhaps you’re trying too hard!

Can you hear the babbling of a brook? The rustle of leaves in the trees? How about the sound of little children laughing? Your mother saying, “I love you…” Do you love the sound of your favorite song?

How about these sounds: Have you listened to a gum wrapper scoot across the pavement in the breeze, the bellowing of a boss to an employee across the room? Chairs scraping against the floor…a window opening?

God is present in all of these sounds, if He is present in your thoughts. You don’t have to listen really hard, just listen with your heart!

God speaks!

“Uncle,” from my book, “God Is Not A Stuffed Shirt”

Oh P a Pa,

I saw worlds within worlds today,

as I sat and watched your rippling sea

that seems to spill over the horizon.

Above floated white clouds,

mimicking the pattern of the rolling waves

that spilled against the shore with fingers of white;

crawling and hissing onto the sand.

Oh, the sand, gazillions of teeny tiny everything!

Soft – made for bare feet;

soggy, for sucking toes into the quicksand!

Oh, to walk along the sand

with the tingling cold Spring sea

trying to catch me as I ran backward,

giggling with little girl laughter!

It’s time to take your shoes off –

they don’t belong on the wet and sandy seashore!

PaPa; which is stronger,

the ocean or the mountains?

I think the ocean is,

because it can write its name on a cliff side,

and swallow an island;

while the mountain trips on its boulders

and slides into the river and feeds the sea.

Yes, my guess would be that

if the ocean and a mountain arm wrestled,

the ocean would win –

though it would probably take

a long, long time for the mountain to say, “uncle!”

But, PaPa, your gentle, loving Spirit

is stronger than them both, and,

with one word, you can still the sea like glass

and crumple a mountain into a meadow.

Well, as strong as the mountains and the sea are,

I will only say, “uncle” to You!!!!

Mankind, You Are Loved

Think of God and what picture comes to mind? An old man with a long beard  and wild hair? Perhaps God sits on a throne, His expression angry with fiery eyes, and, for good measure He’s holding a bolt of lightning, ready to knock someone dead and send them to hell. I think not!

The Word of God, (the Bible), has many Scriptures revealing the true nature of God, and unlike many people may think, He is not angry and vengeful. God IS love.

Jesus gave Himself as a living sacrifice for all mankind and died on the Cross, paying the ultimate price for all of our sins. A sinless Man Himself, He took our punishment for us. And, since He rose again from the dead, Father God is able to look at us all and, through Jesus, have a loving, intimate relationship with us, His children. Jesus Is The Only Way To Salvation

Originally posted on October 11, 2012

Salvation, or, being “saved” does not happen simply because you go to church, or read the Bible, or even pray. Believing in God does not mean that your salvation is a done deal either.

In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” A loving, personal and intimate relationship with Jesus is essential in order to ensure your place in heaven, with God, for eternity. When Is Life Not Life?

Live Oak Seeds - Acorns
Live Oak Seeds – Acorns

The other day, my husband opened his hand and told me to look. There on his palm were several perfect acorns – little tiny ones. We laughed because they were so cute. Then we began looking around at the hundred year old Live Oaks that surrounded us and began to wonder at the fact  that those huge beautiful trees, replete with Spanish moss, daintily draped from their branches, began their lives as acorns. Is an acorn an oak tree then? Continue reading “When Is Life Not Life?”

As The Twig Is Bent, So Grows The Tree!

I went to Sunday School, as a little girl, at my small town’s local Baptist Church. I learned and sang about God, in a little girl’s way; innocent and delighted at the stories of a wonderful Man named Jesus. As a teenager I attended that same Baptist Church, now as an “adult.” I was attentive, for the most part, though I have to admit my eyelids sometimes got heavy during some of the longer sermons. I still remember the words of Matthew 11:28, (KJV), painted high on the wall next to the pulpit: “Come unto Me all ye who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Those words are still emblazoned on my heart and mind, even all these many years later. Praise Jesus

Oh Father,

My belly fills with butterflies as I sing praises to our Savior, Jesus Christ. The largeness of Him breaks through any boundaries I have imposed  upon myself.

Sometimes my fire is a timid little flame, sputtering in the breeze of the day. It explodes to its flash point when I allow my heart a free run with praise. For I do praise You, Jesus!

You are mighty and strong and powerful in Your gentleness and Your sweet, fragrant love. Thank You, Jesus, thank You!

I rest safely in Your arms and praise You with my heart, my soul, and my voice…Praise God! Hallelujah! Amen, Lord, amen! Yes, praise Jesus!

Faith – A Poem From My Book, “GOD Is Not A Stuffed Shirt”

Dear PaPa,

Father, I know that there is so much more to faith than simply believing in You. Faith, that we are loved. Faith, that we are provided for.

Faith, that health is possibly maintained by attitude and prayer. Faith, that You want us financially secure and so much more. Faith, that we can grace the world with Your love and make it a better place.

Faith, that Jesus’ life was an orchestrated dance between Him and Father God in heaven. That He is our Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Faith, that Jesus died on the cross after living a sinless life, despite all temptations. Faith, that the Father raised His Son from the dead after three days.

Faith, that Jesus continued His ministry on earth for a while after He was resurrected, until finally He rose into heaven to sit at His Father’s right hand.

Faith, that Jesus forgave our sinful lives, and Faith, that when He died on the cross He bequeathed to us His unconditional love, His mercy, forgiveness, grace, and redemption.

Faith, that He left to us His power to heal and cast out demons. Faith, that even now He provides for us with prayer and our daily bread.

Faith, that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that it’s through Him only that we are united with our Father in Heaven – eternally.
